Did you know that you can overcome hangover with tea?
If you had fun last night and celebrate with greater amounts of alcohol, you are most likely paying the price for it.
Terrible headache, dizziness, sensitivity to light and sound, muscle pain, irritable stomach, and digestive disorders are often associated with excessive and reckless alcohol consumption.
But since a hangover is no fun to have, it is important that you know how to deal with it as quickly as possible or at least relieve the symptoms.
Green tea has healing properties that have been known for thousands of years by the Chinese people.
It is used for various purposes in Chinese medicine, from treating heart disease to temperature control, to improving memory, relieving the symptoms of the hangover, and has even been found to reduce the possibility of gastrointestinal cancer, prostate, and uterine cancer.
Why is green tea good for a hangover?
As you guessed, we will talk about relieving a hangover with drinking green tea.
It originates from Camellia sinensis and consists of leaves that aren’t fermented.
This allows the preservation of high amounts of antioxidants.
It is good to know that it is made from leaves that have been exposed to minimal oxidation during the production itself.
Compounds
Green tea is a great source of antioxidants and alkaloids, but also contains vitamins A, D, E, C, B, B5, H, and K.
It contains manganese, magnesium, zinc, chromium and selenium, carotenoids, tocopherols, fluoride, and some other phytochemical compounds.
It contains large amounts of polyphenols, especially catechin known as epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG).
Powerful antioxidants
Polyphenols are a group of chemical compounds known as flavonoids, lignans, and tannins, and are probably the most important ingredients in your green teacup.
EGCG is an extremely powerful antioxidant, which is very effective in destroying free radicals that cause negative changes in the cells (mutations) that can cause cancer.
Its antioxidant power is 25 to 100 times greater than the antioxidant power of vitamins C and E. There is 20-35 mg of this strongest antioxidant found in one cup of green tea.
The effects of occasional alcohol consumption can be avoided or at least relieved.
Alcohol from the body separates vitamins and minerals, so it is crucial that you consume them after drinking.
And what is best than getting vitamins and minerals with green tea?
A combination of antioxidants whether before sleeping or when you consume alcohol can help to prevent the damage caused by free radicals.
The consumption of vitamin C, vitamin B1, B6, S-allyl-cysteine amino acids, glutathione, vitamin E, and selenium will contribute to well-being.
Clinical studies have confirmed that the long-term use of vitamin E (which green tea has) prevents the onset of damage to the bloodstream and brain caused by alcohol.
How can you avoid a hangover headache?
A major problem in drinking alcohol is that it causes dehydration of the body.
When the body doesn’t get enough fluids from ordinary sources (non-alcoholic drinks like water, tea, and natural juices), it starts pumping water from the body organs, even from the brain.
Because of the lack of water, brain cells shrink, which you feel like a headache.
You can avoid it by consuming a large amount of water before going to sleep or already while drinking alcohol.
It is recommended to drink 7 units of non-alcoholic drinks per 1 unit of alcohol.
Emergency hangover cure
Here are my useful tips to overcome the hangover as soon as possible.
Drink fresh juices
Fresh fruit juice contains a lot of fructose and helps in the metabolism of the alcohol that remains in your stomach. In addition, water from the juice will help you rehydrate.
I recommend orange, cranberry, banana juice or multivitamin juice. It is best to prepare them yourself or to buy natural juices that don’t contain artificial additives and added sugar.
Eat a protein-rich breakfast
A rich breakfast is also important. Prepare a protein-rich meal that will contain healthy fats. The proteins contain many amino acids and help to recover from hangover faster.
Food is always a good idea. It does not absorb alcohol, but strengthens metabolism, activates absorption and accelerates the process of alcohol decomposition.
Go on the fresh air
Don’t lie in the bed all day but go to the fresh air. Increased air intake improves metabolism and accelerates the destruction of alcohol in the body.
However, there is no miracle medicine against the hangover.
Use analgesic
Headache can be relieved with analgesics; free radical formation can be prevented by antioxidants and dehydration can be treated with consuming liquids (preferably isotonic drinks).
Most of the symptoms disappear when you have a good night’s sleep and when alcohol is metabolized in the blood, usually after one day.
Be smart and drink it occasionally
Still, I have to mention that alcohol should be drunk occasionally.
If you drink it often, your body will not function properly and you will feel awful.
When having a hangover, green tea as it is the best cure drink you can consume.
I think this is not what you want, so think again when celebrating with glasses full of liquor, wine, beer, or any other alcoholic beverage.
