Secondly, as I mentioned earlier, drinking water fills up your appetite and so, you’re less likely to crave. Usually, drinking water tricks your body into thinking that you’re hungry while in fact, you are just thirsty. Therefore, this increases calorie consumption, which leads to weight gain.
How much water should I drink?
The answer to this depends on many factors, and no it’s not necessary for you to drink too much water as if you are about to embark a trip to the desert.
It seems like the recommended amount is 8 glasses of water a day. However, this amount doesn’t apply to everyone as each person has their own lifestyle.
- Physical Factor
While many say that drinking 8 glasses of water on a daily basis is enough to give you good health, people that are physically active like athletes and bodybuilders are known to drink more than a gallon and a half of water – this is because they sweat a lot. As mentioned earlier, they have to replace the water they lost through sweating.
- Climate Factor
If a person is living in a snow-capped town and you ask them how much water they drink, chances are, they will tell you they don’t drink a lot. On the other hand, if you ask someone who lives in a tropical country in the summertime, you’d probably get a different answer. Just like the previous factor mentioned, we tend to lose more body water through sweat in warmer weather. That’s why it is important to drink more to keep ourselves hydrated.

A person’s age also plays a part in how much they should drink.
- Men must drink 3 liters of water
- Women must drink 2.2 liters of water
- Babies and infants must drink 0.7 to 0.8 liters of water or milk
- Small children must drink 1.3 liters to 1.7 liters of water
How about other Beverages?
Another question many people want to know is that if the essential assimilation of the body of liquids includes drinking soda, coffee, tea, and the like, or does it need to be plain water?
Well, you are trying to lose weight here, people! Most drinks, especially sodas are filled with sugar which contributes to weight gain. So, as must as possible, just stick to water. No calories = no problem.
Can you drink TOO MUCH water?
Although it is almost impossible to drink too much water, this case happens. When your kidneys cannot emit the excess water you consume, your blood’s sodium content is diluted, which is what we called hyponatremia – a life-threatening condition. This condition results in the disturbance of the brain, muscle, and heart functions.
People who participate in extensive or intense workouts or endurance activities have a higher risk of hyponatremia. But then again, this condition is not a common case.
