Weber Genesis II-E-410 Review

The Weber Genesis II E-410 6202001 is a liquid propane grill made by Weber, one of the top and most well known outdoor cooking companies. It comes in 4 color schemes, all with stainless steel and painted steel chassis, and hood colors in ebony black, suede copper, crimson red, and subtle stormy grey. It comes with Weber’s famous 10 year warranty and 100% satisfaction guarantee. The company also offers a Natural Gas option, but today this Weber Genesis II E-410 review will focus on the liquid propane grill.

The Genesis II 410 is the higher edition model of the Genesis II, the lower model being the 400. The 400 does not include the flavorizer bars and the grill top doesn’t have the porcelain finish but is just a normal stainless steel grill grate.

GS4 Grilling System

“GS4 Grilling System” is their high performance package deal of including the Infinity Ignition system, high performance burners, flavorizer bars, and grease management system all on the same grill. All 4 systems together are exclusive to the Genesis II grill.

As part of the GS4 grilling system, it has 4 burners, which are all built for high performance. Along the bottom of the grill sit some 4 and 1/2 inch wide triangular steel bars that are dubbed “Flavorizer bars”,  which work to move grease away from the fuel output burner tubes.

Because the drippings are now vaporizing on this hot steel bar instead of on the burner flame, it produces a nice smokey flavoring, and prevents a flare-up by directing the grease that isn’t turned into smoke into a grease catching area, making the grease cleanup a little easier to handle and manage.

Grilling areas

The grill surface itself is 646 square inches which is comes to 34 inches long and 19 inches wide, along with a 198 square inch warming rack, which is about 34 inches long by 6 inches wide, that rests over the top of the grilling surface when set up, or, it can fold against the back lip of the grill to stay out of the way which is very nice when you have a big item to grill and really need all of the grill’s available space. The grill surface is made out of cast iron that’s coated in porcelain enamel for the best of all worlds when it comes to heat distribution, longevity, and ease of cleaning.

Convenient spaces and work areas

On the either side of the burner is a work station where you can rest your tools and plates. These working areas are about 14 inches long by 19.5 inches wide. It’s really nice to have 2 of them on a grill for a change. Below the grill are two racks to store things on, with the upper rack having a metal wire grate texture. On the edges of the workstations is an indent containing several pegs for longer hanging grill utensils, which is a very convenient and natural feeling feature. The pegs have wider edges, like a push pin, so that your hanging items won’t simply eventually slide off,  but rather, catch and hang there steadily.

Below the right worktable area is an underhang of steel with an opening in the middle and side. This is where you would put your fuel canister, with the steel working as a shield. If you rent your propane bottles and have to return them later, this shield is a lifesaver as it saves you from having to wipe down your canisters from smoke, grease, and dirt.

Internal thermometers

The grill itself doesn’t come with any thermometers, but you can buy some online. When you hook them up to the grill, this integrates into a system that they call “iGrill3”. To use it, you’d download Weber’s app on your phone and it would tell you the temperature of the 4 heat probes that you bought. This can be convenient if you’re waiting for the grill to get ready but don’t have the free time to check on it constantly because you are prepping other food or watching the kids.

My experience with the Genesis II

When I got my Genesis II, I took it out of the box and started putting it together. I was a little worried about the special nuts and bolts that I would have to hit the hardware store, but they included the right kind of wrench right in the box. It wasn’t bad, and it took me about 2 hours because I kept getting distracted with the tv, but I probably could have done it a bit faster if I focused.

Turning the grill on

This grill’s ignition system is calle “infinity ignition”, which ignite the gas and starts the burner, and is designed to ignite the first time, every time. I didn’t have any problems with it and it worked as expected, with the gas lighting and burning from their holes in the burner tube, which looks reminiscent to a LED tube light in appearance. The heat was even across the grill surface, but didn’t get as hot as I was expecting no matter what I did.

I had to do some investigating and then I realized that the ignition system has some internal safeties. I turned off the grill, waited a bit, and then tried again, opening the regulator valve, letting it sit for a few minutes, and then slowly turning up the valve for more gas. This did the trick and my grill got nice and hot as expected.

I was able to cook about 16 large bone in chicken thighs with leg, 25 chicken breasts, 7 porterhouse steaks, and 36 2 lb salmon steak pieces. The box says that you can cook for 8 to 10 people but I think that would be better stated that you can cook for 8 famished fully grown men. If you take advantage of all of the spaces between your main items to cook vegetables like corn, foil packets, foil potatoes, bell peppers, or portobello mushrooms, I think you could easily stretch this to 12 fully grown men.

My food came out hot and well cooked. I like my steaks medium rare and I didn’t have any problems, everything went as expected. I always let my steaks rest to return the juices to the meat, and my resulting steak was juicy and delicious, with just the right amount of smoky flavor.

Final Words

I hope now you know everything about this powerful grill from this Weber Genesis II E-410 review. I was very satisfied with this grill and all of the features that were carefully thought out and right where you’d expect them to be. It performed as expected and I didn’t have any hiccups except for when I turned on the gas valve too quickly and the grill internal safeties kicked in. I’d recommend buying the 410 grill over the lesser model, the 400.
